Oscar® Nominations 2007

There have already been many awards presented this year, but none to top the most sought after accolade – an Oscar®. The nominations were announced today and The Queen leads the way for the British contenders.

The Queen has already picked up two awards at the Golden Globes and received an amazing 10 BAFTA nominations. Oscar® nods for 2007 include Achievement in Costume Design, Music and Directing. It is also up for Best Motion Picture of the Year.

Unsurprisingly, Dame Helen Mirren has been nominated for Best Actress for her portrayal of Elizabeth II. She goes head to head with two other Brits – Kate Winslet for Little Children and Dame Judi Dench for Notes on a Scandal. The Queen also appears in the category for Original Screenplay.

Borat: Cultural Learnings Of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation Of Kazakhstan, Notes on a Scandal and Children of Men are all competing for Adapted Screenplay. Clive Owen vehicle, Children of Men, is also up for Achievement in Film Editing and Cinematography.

Addtional London-shot films that feature in the Oscar® listings are Venus – for Peter O’Toole’s shining central performance, and The Good Shepherd – for Achievement in Art Direction.

Ellen Degeneres is the first time host for the ceremony, which will take place on 25 February 2007.
