Day of Light
Date posted: 04.12.2007
Nueva Generacion (New Generation) will be celebrating its tenth anniversary and Latin American lighting day on Saturday 8 December at Vauxhall Gardens Community Centre (100 Vauxhall Walk, SE11).
The Latin American youth organisation was established ten years ago, offering a support network to foreign nationals. It aims to help adapting to life in a new environment and culture, allowing participants to build a new skill base and to create a sense of belonging.
Many different workshops, such as drama, dance, capoeira, poetry and video, are run throughout the year, to empower young people and boost their confidence.
Nueva Generacion’s celebration of their anniversary is open to everybody - regardless of background or nationality. The soul intention is to share in the organisation’s main philosophy - of integration, community support and enjoyment.
The day’s events will begin at midday with a traditional Colombian celebration of Farolitos (a hand craft activity of lantern-making for children).
Family workshops will take place throughout the day including Rumba Therapy, an activity that combines Aerobics and Latin-American dance. It is also possible to attend a photography exhibition, a presentation of sculpture and video screenings.
A traditional Colombian dinner will be served for everyone at 6pm. This will be followed by live bands and a theatre performance – promising twelve action-packed hours of entertainment!
