Award-winning actress Billie Piper plays Sally Lockhart in the BBC One adaptation of The Ruby In The Smoke. This gripping tale, set in the heart of Victorian London, will be transmitted at 8.30pm on 27 December.

The first in a quartet of Philip Pullman novels charts the adventures of Sally, a feisty young Victorian heroine, who is on a journey to discover the truth behind her father's death.

The story follows the mystery behind 'The Seven Blessings'. These ominous words were sent to Sally in a message from her father, shortly before his early demise and uncovering the meaning of them draws her into a world of secrets.
Adapted by highly-acclaimed writer Adrian Hodges, this TV drama boasts a stellar cast including Julie Walters (Mrs Holland), Robert Glenister, David Harewood and Ramon Tikaram.

Period London was recreated in Fournier Street, amongst other locations. This specific street in the London borough of Tower Hamlets was used for the exterior shots of Mrs Holland's house.

The houses mainly date from the 1720s and together form one of the most important and best preserved collections of early Georgian domestic town-houses in Britain.
