London's Screen Archives

London is home to some of the country's leading national and specialist moving image archives and a vast range of museums, archives, libraries, educational institutions, community and special focus organisations which hold film and video material as part of their broader collections. These organisations collaborate on projects and share information to create a 'virtual' regional collection of moving image material made in and about the capital. LSA helps the public, researchers, cinemas, festivals, community groups, broadcasters, schools and colleges find and work with the region's moving image history.
LSA has three key aims:
- To locate and preserve London's moving image collections
- To develop and sustain the region's infrastructure (including skills, advocacy and fundraising)
- To promote audience enjoyment of and engagement with London's screen heritage
Among its services, LSA maintains an online union catalogue, which allows records from more than 60 institutions to be found in a single search, and a YouTube channel where a selection of films and videos from London collections can be viewed.
For more information about LSA's projects and partners, and to search the London Union Catalogue of Moving Image, please go to www.londonsscreenarchives.org.uk. To view the LSA YouTube channel, go to www.youtube.com/londonsscreenarchive.“The knowledge I’ve gained has helped towards our long-term ability to create an archive of DVDs – to make available a part of our moving image archive which would otherwise not get viewed.”
