Education 'Hubs' Fund
The Education 'Hubs' Fund, which is currently closed, aims to support projects which offer educational screening programmes designed to teach audiences about film, through film. These projects will also extend the reach and impact of film education in London by acting as 'hubs' of film education work, serving as models of best practice and assisting Film London in creating strong networks and new partnerships for the city's burgeoning film education sector.
All applicants to this programme will benefit from training and networking events provided by Film London which aim to strengthen the capacity of organisations to deliver future projects.
The fund supports projects which deliver all of the following:
- Exhibition Activity
Provision of a regular screening programme for a specified audience, which ideally makes use of the UK's rich film heritage, the wealth of world cinema and non-mainstream material. - Educational Activity
Projects that operate and monitor the opportunities for audiences to learn about cinema and moving image culture through activity complementary to these film screenings, for instance introductions, facilitated discussions, worksheets, guest lectures, Q&As, seminars, programme notes. - Local Networking
Projects with a new or existing plan to bring together local film education providers, such as borough councils, schools, clubs and youth workers, to present work, forge partnerships, as well as share knowledge and best practice. - Regional Networking
All funded projects will also be required to work with Film London to host a networking and training meeting for London-wide film education organisations.
We are looking for projects with strong local and cross-London partnerships, optimising shared resources and the size of audiences reached. At least one of these projects will focus on young people (e.g. a schools screening programme) and at least one on a different group (e.g. a film club for adults with mental health issues).
£30,000 will be distributed via two rounds for the financial year 2010/11. The deadline for applications has now passed. Award announcements for the second round will be made by February 2011.
