Film London currently supports a number of schemes to ensure that Londoners have great opportunities to learn about and engage with film. Ultimately, we want audiences to better interpret and understand how moving images are shaped and manipulated, and in turn, how film can be used to express and share ideas, opinions and information.

Through the previous Audience Development Fund and the current Education 'Hubs' Fund we support projects around people and cinema, from film-making workshops to film festivals. A variety of educational screening programmes have been introduced in the capital, which extend the reach and impact of film education in London, serving as models of best practice and assisting Film London in creating strong networks and new partnerships for the city's burgeoning film education sector.

Projects that have been successfully delivered so far include: Spring into Film, a screening programme run by the Rio Cinema, for schools in Hackney and surrounding London boroughs to increase young people's access to, and knowledge of, film; and Breaking the Silence About Mental Health, a project led by Tongues on Fire offers a comprehensive exploration of the power of film to educate people about mental health issues - in particular, within the Asian community.

Film London also acts as a delivery partner in the London region for Mediabox, a government-backed initiative that offers grants for organisations to create and distribute media projects with young people.

Over 2009/10 36 London organisations were successful in the main four funding rounds winning more than £700000 in grants to create films, radio programs, magazines, games and interactive content with young people.
