Guide to Filming in London
Locations
London offers a fantastic range of locations from historic country houses to modern and minimalist loft conversions. The capital presents a mix of urban cityscapes, riverside and woodland spaces, rooftop panoramic views, underground tunnels and hi-tech futuristic offices. London is often used for its distinctive identity but it has also been used to double for other parts of the world such as the US, Russia and many European countries.
If you have a specific locations enquiry then our dedicated Inward Investment & Business Development team can be contacted on locations@filmlondon.org.uk or 020 7613 7683. However, most of your questions can be answered through the information pages on this site, so we recommend browsing online in the first instance.
Finding a Location
Register now for the Film London Directory and you can take control of your own locations research. This free online service allows you access to a search engine of approximately 4,000 locations in all 33 London boroughs and the surrounding area. It provides key information about each location, as well as a collection of digital photographs. You can create a personal folio of images, or even a themed folio once you are logged in.
With some landmark locations we also provide additional information through our Organisations & Agencies list (please find it below). This is a categorised document which provides contact details - although please note that in all cases you will need to contact the location or property owner directly to negotiate fees and availability.
To help you further with your shoot in central London, Film London has compiled floor plans and camera position maps with contact details of some popular locations, including parkland, pedestrianised areas and bridges.
If you need any further inspiration then refer to our regular Location of the Month feature - these pages highlight how locations across the capital have been used and how you might also be able to get in touch.
Registering a Location
If you're a location owner, then you may like to register your property in our Locations Directory. Simply download and complete the Location Registration Form (please find it below), and return it to Film London as a hard copy signed and dated form, along with 10-20 up-to-date digital images that offer a good overall view of the location. You can either send the images on a disk when you post the form or you can email them to locationslibrary@filmlondon.org.uk and indicate that the form is in the post.
