Hospitality
London boasts a vast and varied selection of hotels and temporary accommodation facilities, with new additions appearing across the capital regularly. By 2012, London is expected to have in excess of 120,000 hotel rooms available and a further 30,000 beds for visitors on a budget.
Planning ahead and booking in advance is essential, since some very popular hotels are already fully booked for the summer 2012 period, including most of the hotels in close proximity to the Olympic Park.
Transport
Roads
A series of measures are being planned to ensure smooth transport operations for the Games during the summer of 2012 and the Mayor has expressed a strong commitment to keeping the city moving as usual.
It is expected that only 3.6 per cent of London roads will be affected by restrictions, and only during the 17 days of the Games.
The Olympic Route Network (ORN) and Paralympic Route Network (PRN) will allow 55,000 key participants such as athletes, officials and the media to travel reliably to and from events, while keeping London moving. Similarly, express routes or 'Games Lanes', largely reserved for emergencies, will be in place but will amount to only 1 per cent of the capital's roads.
Public Transport
The new shuttle service Javelin will connect visitors entering the city on the Eurostar via St Pancras International train station directly to the Olympic Park.
A major national and international campaign is underway to get visitors travelling to events by public transport, with London Underground and National Rail running trains later into the evening on Games days.
Travel advice and tools, including travel plan sheets and maps for businesses operating in London during the Games, are also available from the Mayor of London's website and the Get Ahead of the Games website.
