Premiered at the 47th London Film Festival and released in October 2003, The Mother is Hanif Kureishi's story of an grandmother from the North of England who comes to London after her husband dies. 

She recedes into the background of her busy children's lives and stuck in an unfamiliar city, far from home, she fears that she has become another invisible old lady whose life is over. Until she embarks on a passionate affair with a man half her age.
