Film Tourism
London is one of the most cinematic cities in the world and images of London on screen contribute significantly to the branding of the capital, increasing the attraction of the city for business and leisure tourism alike. Over 15 million overseas tourists come to London each year - together with ten million domestic visitors and 150 million day trippers. Films depicting the UK are responsible for attracting about 1 in 10 overseas tourists, spending around £1.8 billion a year.
Major brands such as Bond and Harry Potter have become global advertisements for London and the UK with such films sparking a boom in tourism and generating an amount of screen time that no tourist board could afford to purchase in terms of advertising its brand and destination.
Following the success of a series of Movie Maps produced in partnership with Visit London, Film London has launched a new online Movie Map as the first of its tourism initiatives under the banner of Love From London. The maps invite people to take a fresh look at the city by exploring the capital's hot spots of celluloid magic and creating their own film-inspired tours of the city.
Otherwise, why not let a qualified guide enhance your trip to the city? The Walks & Tours section outlines a plethora of opportunities for you to experience London as a film set.
