Walthamstow International Film Festival (WIFF)
Date: 05 September - 12
The very first Walthamstow International Film Festival (WIFF) is set to take place this autumn and showcases innovative short films conceived by independent film-makers from all over the world.
During the 1920s, Walthamstow Studios was one of the biggest film studios in the UK, producing more than 400 films (including 1916s record breaking The Battle of The Somme) before WWII. In an effort "to bring a film community back to the borough", E17 Films has incorporated the ten day film event into its E17 Arts Trail, which features the works of local film-makers.
Known to some as the "town without a cinema", films will be shown on a gigantic retro television specially made for the event in the centre of Walthamstow Village - making for a very memorable and unique cinematic experience.
A panel of judges will be on hand, including Stella Creasy (Walthamstow MP), Dominic Stinton (renowned director and documentarian) and Time Out film critic David Jenkins.
Where: Beyca, 83 Grove Road, Walthamstow Village
