Production Finance Market 2007
On 22-23 October 2007 Film London, in association with The Times BFI 51st London Film Festival, launched a global, premier London-based Production Finance Market (PFM), held at the Hilton London Tower Bridge.
The event responded to calls from the UK film industry to help them engage with key players from the global financial markets and access potential major new finance.
Film London's key objectives in holding this inaugural market were to stimulate the city and private capital's interest and involvement in the film production industry; and to examine new forms of financing at a point of major distribution and technological change within the global industry.
68 producers representing 51 companies attended the market; and 96 financiers representing 68 companies attended including private equity, hedge funds, distributors, sales companies and banks. Producers and financiers came from the UK, Europe, Asia and the US.
The market's main focus was to co-ordinate matched tabled meetings between Producers and Financiers, with over 1,000 formal meetings taking place over the two day period.
The market began with a Keynote Address from Mark Gill, Co-Founder and CEO of US company The Film Department which was based around the topic 'Alignment of interests: Raising private money for the independent film model.'
The keynote address was followed by two panel discussions:
- 'The state of private financing in the independent film market'
What lessons can be gleaned from the US? What strategies do the UK and Europe need to be developing? - 'Creating a sustainable UK production business in a volatile marketplace'
