Film London is constantly working towards raising the profile of the British film industry, as well as helping the next generation of film-making talent to progress in the UK and global marketplace. We achieve this aim through tailored events and schemes that cover features to shorts.

London UK Film Focus (LUFF) is a British export event that was created as an initiative for the promotion of British films and talent. Celebrating its seventh anniversary this year, the four-day annual showcase is for domestic and international buyers, and film festival directors. Backed by the UK Film Council, Film Export UK, the London Development Agency, the British Film Institute and UK Trade & Investment, it is the only event in the UK to support the export of completed UK films.

Over the last few years attendance has risen and LUFF has become a firm fixture in the international film calendar. As well as demonstrating the wealth of British film-making it also brings business directly into the capital and generates in the region of US$3 million of sales.

London UK Film Focus 2009 showcased 35 titles in the main programme and 9 titles in the Breakthrough strand. This strand is dedicated to screening feature projects from emerging British film-makers looking for sales representation and is now a key feature of the event. Films showcased in 'Breakthrough' have included Sons of Cuba, She, A Chinese, Crying With Laughter and The Be All and End All.

The Film-makers' Festival Fund (FFF) was also introduced in support of film exhibition – getting London made films out to the international festival circuit. It supports the development of London-based film-makers by providing travel grants and contributions towards print costs for short films competing at selected festivals. Since 2005, The Film-makers Festivals Fund has supported 90 film-makers with print and travel grants for festivals including Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Sundance, AFI Fest Los Angeles, Tribeca, Ann Arbor, Rotterdam and Images-Toronto.

Films and film-makers that have benefitted from FFF since it was established in 2005 include award-winning Whore by Fyzal Boulifa, winner of the European Jury Prize at Angers 2010, and This Way Up, Oscar-nominated animation by Adam Foulkes and Alan Smith.
