David Parfitt - Chair of Film London Board of Directors [inline_portrait]

David Parfitt (Chair, Film London) has worked as an independent film and theatre producer for over 20 years. His film credits include Henry V, Peter's Friends, Much Ado About Nothing, The Madness of King George, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, Twelfth Night, The Wings Of The Dove (both nominated for four Academy Awards), Shakespeare In Love (winner of seven Academy Awards including Best Picture and four British Academy Awards including Best Film), Gangs of New York, (Production Consultant), I Capture the Castle, Chasing Liberty and A Bunch of Amateurs. He has just completed principal photography on My Week with Marilyn, due for release in autumn 2011. In 2007 he co-produced, with Finola Dwyer, the critically acclaimed theatre production of Elling at The Bush Theatre and in the West End. Before moving into film and theatre production, David worked as an actor.

John Akomfrah - member of the Film London Board of Directors

John Akomfrah is an award-winning film-maker who has received awards for his feature films and documentary work including his debut, Handsworth Songs (1986) which garnered the prestigious John Grierson Award. His credits include The Wonderful World of Louis Armstrong, Martin Luther King - Days of Hope, Testament, Who Needs a Heart and Speak Like a Child. John Akomfrah is also a Governor of the British Film Institute.

Isabel Begg - member of the Film London Board of Directors [inline_portrait]

Isabel Begg has recently taken on the role of Head of Business Affairs and Partnerships for BBC North. Prior to that she was working as Head of Business Affairs for BBC Drama, Programme Acquisitions and BBC Films. Isabel started at the BBC in 2002 as Head of Business and Legal Affairs for BBC Films working with David Thompson and Jane Wright where they grew BBC Films into an internationally renowned film division. Having qualified as a solicitor in 1992 Isabel left private practice to join Miramax Film Corp as Harvey Weinstein's assistant. Within a few months she was re-employed as Director of Legal Affairs for Miramax UK. Between 1996 and 2002 Isabel worked as the Head of Business Affairs for Miramax UK gaining invaluable experience in independent movie making.


Sally Caplan is Managing Director of eOne Films International. Between 2005 and 2010, she headed the Premiere Fund at the UK Film Council, awarding funding to over 45 films including Mike Leigh's Happy Go Lucky and Another Year, Made In Dagenham, Nowhere Boy and Streetdance 3D. Sally also committed funding to the multi Oscar®-winning film, The King's Speech. Prior to being at the UKFC, Caplan was President of Icon Film UK following a successful career in acquisitions at PolyGram Filmed Entertainment, Universal and then Momentum Pictures where she acquired projects including Trainspotting, The Usual Suspects and Lost In Translation.

Dr Emily Caston [inline_portrait]

Dr Emily Caston is an award-winning senior producer who has made over 200 short films, documentaries, TV dramas, commercials, and music videos. Prior to her current post, she was a lecturer at London Metropolitan University, Executive Producer at Harry Nash Productions, and between 1997 and 1999 she was Managing Director of Black Dog Films UK. As well as directing the Film and Television course at the London College of Communication, she is Lead Education Consultant to the MOBO (Music of Black Origin) Foundation in London. Emily is also an Advisory Board member of the Colonial Film: Moving Images of the British Empire, a project based at the British Film Institute and Birkbeck College.

Stuart Comer - member of the Film London Board of Directors

Stuart Comer is Curator of Film at Tate Modern. He oversees film and video work for the Tate Collection and displays and organises an extensive programme of screenings, forums and lectures focusing on current cultural issues and the history of artists' film and video. He was co-curator of the 2007 Lyon Biennial, Selector for the Studio Voltaire Annual Members Exhibition 2007, and was a member of the jury for the inaugural Derek Jarman Award for artists' film and video in 2008.

Edward Fletcher - member of the Film London Board of Directors

Edward Fletcher is co-founder and Managing Director of Soda Pictures, an independent UK-based film distribution company which has acquired and released numerous award-winning films such as Head On and the Oscar nominated After the Wedding. Before setting up Soda Pictures, Edward managed the film distribution operation at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, ICA Projects, and has also managed cinemas in London and Cambridge.

 

Liz Meek is currently Chair of London think-tank the Centre for London and has a fantastic knowledge of local and regional government, particularly in the capital. Formerly Head of the Government Office for London, she supported the creation of the London Film Commission (which became part of Film London in 2003), led the civil service team which established the Greater London Authority and was a Regional Director of the Government Office for London. Subsequently, she was Regional Director in the North West, leaving in March 2011 to work in the Cabinet Office in an advisory capacity.

 

Kevin Price is a creative and business leader in the arts and has been BAFTA's Chief Operating Officer since 2000. His expertise has seen him leading on strategy, finance, business, corporate governance, communications and charity outreach and he has been credited with evolving BAFTA into an integral organisation in the UK's film, television and video games industries. 

Tim Richards [inline_portrait]

Tim Richards is the CEO and co founder of Vue Entertainment - a state-of-the-art nationwide cinema chain. With a background as a New York M&A Lawyer, Tim then worked as Vice President for Paramount & Universal's cinema chain, United Cinemas International, before migrating into a senior international business development role at Warner Bros. With a long-standing involvement in cinema exhibition, Tim has extensive international development and operational experience in most major markets in the world. Tim is also a Council Member and Executive Director for the Cinema Exhibition Association and the British Screen Advisory Council, a Vice Chairperson at Skillset, a Council Member for BAFTA and the Chairperson for Hope & Homes for Children. 

Rob Wilkerson [inline_portrait]

Rob Wilkerson is CEO of Target Media Group - the UK's leading media agency for the entertainment industry. The company has experienced such success, that two new divisions of Target Media have since been established - Target Live and Organic Marketing. With a longstanding association with the UK film industry, Target Media's current client base in film includes Momentum Pictures, Icon Film Distribution, Optimum Releasing, Artificial Eye, Metrodome and Revolver. A founder member of Target Media in 1990, Rob previously held various roles at The Guardian Media Group and Capital Radio Plc.

Stephen Woolley [inline_portrait]

Stephen Woolley has been a film producer for over 25 years. His credits as producer include The Company of Wolves, Mona Lisa, Scandal, the Academy Award-winning The Crying Game (for which Woolley was awarded Motion Picture Producer of the Year Award from the Producers Guild of America), Interview with the Vampire, The End of the Affair, and How To Lose Friends & Alienate People.  Woolley is also a former Chairman of the Film Committee of the BAFTA. Woolley's recent productions include his directorial debut Stoned and, as producer, the critically acclaimed Sounds Like Teen Spirit and the upcoming Perrier's Bounty. We Want Sex, directed by Nigel Cole and with Sally Hawkins starring, will be released in 2010.

 

Sir Robin Young is currently on the Board of Institute of Directors and was formerly Permanent Secretary at the Department of Culture Media and Sport (DMCS). His successful career in the civil service spanned over 31 years, working in five government departments. In addition to the DCMS, he also headed up the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). Young has a vast amount of experience in working in national government, with particular focus on culture and trade.
